Certified CMMC Level 1 Facilitator Program

About the Program

APEX Accelerator counselors are mandated to assist their clients – potential Federal government contractors – with becoming Government Industrial Base (GIB) “ready,” and in particular, Defense Industrial Base (DIB) “ready.” Part of GIB / DIB readiness includes implementing the basic cybersecurity protections for Federal Contract Information (FCI) as codified in the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clause 52.204-21. The Department of Defense (DoD) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 1 requires a DIB member to self-assess, report, and affirm adherence to FAR 52.204-21/52.240-93. There are no formal resources – aside from Project Spectrum –to assist the APEX Accelerator counselors with assisting their clients in becoming GIB / DIB “cybersecurity ready.” Totem Technologies, in partnership with Govology, aims to establish a set of resources to empower these individuals to meet their mandate.

Other government agencies and private-sector entities may have similar current or future mandates to assist clients, so the proposed certification program below would also be offered to additional individuals in select agencies or entities.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Annual Licensure Fee?

The annual licensure fee, paid by the center, is $6,000. Note that when you begin hosting your own workshop cohorts, there is a $100 technology fee per participant payable to Govology.

How many Facilitators can I appoint within my center?

The Annual Licensure Fee covers as many Facilitators within your center as you'd like to appoint.

What exactly is a "workshop"?

A workshop is a fully virtual delivery of the CMMC Level 1 training material. Training content is pre-recorded and stored in a Learning Management System (LMS). Totem Technologies recommends that the workshop is delivered via a cohort over a period of three weeks. All participants get access to the LMS and other tools during the cohort period.

Each week, your Facilitator(s) will host a Q&A meeting with workshop participants to answer questions. At the end of the three weeks, the workshop ends, and the Facilitator decides when to schedule its next workshop cohort.

What is the time commitment for a Facilitator to become certified?
Facilitators go through the same training that their clients will. This consists of the following:
  • A kickoff call (~1 hour)
  • Pre-recorded training (~1.5 hours per week over three weeks = ~4.5 hours)
  • Q&A calls (~1 hour per week over three weeks = ~3 hours)
Once the training is complete, the Facilitator will take an exam (~1 hour) and deliver a live presentation on a CMMC Level 1 topic to Totem Technologies (~1 hour).
Do I have to create my own CMMC Level 1 training content?

No. Totem Technologies creates the CMMC Level 1 training materials and provides the compliance management tooling, and Govology hosts the Learning Management System (LMS). Facilitators host weekly Q&As with their cohort participants to answer client questions, but do not need to create their own training materials.

Is there a limit on how many workshops I can host?

There is no limit, and it is completely up to you.

What support do I receive with this program?

Totem Technologies will participate in one of your three Q&A sessions per workshop cohort to help answer more challenging participant questions, if you'd like. Totem Technologies also hosts a monthly Facilitator Forum, where we'll update your Facilitators on the latest with CMMC, answer any questions you may have, and learn about how we can better support you.

Govology will provide technical assistance with the Govology LMS when needed.

How does pricing for the workshop work?

Because there is a $100 technology fee payable to Govology for each workshop participant, it is recommended that you charge at least $100 per cohort seat. Totem Technologies/Govology can provide recommendations for pricing, but ultimately it is up to your center.

Am I allowed to find a sponsor to help cover my Annual Licensure Fee?

Yes. Please let Totem Technologies/Govology know if that is of interest to you
